Lightning strikes in overhead contact lines or tracks will lead to disruptions or system failure. The communication system will be affected when the signalling is down and this may cause wrong control signals to be displayed, locking release, or other unsafe conditions such as a track circuit not detecting a train happen. This will lead to higher risk of accident happen.

Lightning strikes that happens in a nearby building or the ground may damage or destroy the unprotected electronic components. It significantly interrupts the railway infrastructure and caused an unscheduled downtime for the system which may result in late trains and high maintenance costs.



XD SOLUTIONS - MAINTAIN TRAIN CONNECTIVITY

Surge Protection Device (SPD) is highly recommended to be used to protect the railway signalling, as key to control railway traffic & avoid train collision at all time. Novaris has developed special techniques to ensure that the devices are safely disconnected from the earth connection. It comes with an indicator to prevent and reveal visually and/or electrical alarm when there is any event happen.

The surge filter can be designed to minimise the lengths of connecting leads, therefore minimising it let-through voltage. The let through voltage is the residual voltage exposed to the load past the SPD. Lower let through voltages provide better protection for sensitive equipment in railway line.

Novaris Surge protection device also comes with the auxiliary alarm contact which allow user to identify the signalling failure remotely thru the control panel setup.
