XD SOLUTIONS / Protect Against Voltage Sag

Now, more than ever, electronic equipment and computing devices are used in all types of industrial processes. This has been pivotal in making these processes more productive, efficient, and safe. However, this trend also makes manufacturing processes and equipment more vulnerable to real-world power quality conditions. Power quality is related to fluctuations in the electrical supply in the form of momentary interruptions, voltage sags or swells, transients, harmonic distortion, electrical noise, and flickering lights, among others.

The electrical power grid is designed for delivering power reliably, namely maximizing power availability to customers. However, power quality events are largely untracked, and as a result, can take out a process as many as 20 to 30 times a year, costing industrial customers millions of dollars. To minimize these costs, it is critical for industrial customers to understand how power quality is impacting their system and how to mitigate its effects.

Customer challenges:

Production having a disruption and unscheduled downtime when voltage sag happens. Experiencing an unplanned downtime is critical as the whole production progress will be affected and incurred big losses to the company. Other than the compensation due to delayed shipment, other cost such as labour cost, utilities bill, and productivity will be affected.

Moreover, the electrical equipment and machinery can be worsened due to the poor power quality. Power sag may affect the lifespan of the equipment and indirectly increase the repairing and maintenance cost of the equipment.

Lacking of the ability to monitor and gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of poor power quality on industrial processes become one of the challenges in the industry. Limited knowledge on power sag will overcome the power sag effect and this disruption will continue happen from time to time and become a huge loss in long run.

XD Solutions: Dynamic Sag Corrector

Allen-Bradley Dynamic Sag Correctors (DySC) from Rockwell Automation are unique and exclusive industrial power quality solutions that protect against voltage sags and momentary outages that account for a significant amounts of manufacturing downtime and damaged equipment. They do the job with no batteries, no moving parts and virtually no maintenance, making them ideal for critical manufacturing processes and sensitive electronics that require sag ride-through protection for up to 5 seconds and keep lines unimpacted by dips in voltage.

During normal operation, the DySC monitors power quality continuously, while the power electronics are in standby. When an event occurs, the DySC is correcting in under 2 milliseconds and recreates the complete RMS voltage using a true sinusoidal output. DySC also help to understand the impact power quality events happens and determine mitigation strategies.

The DySC is so efficient that it virtually pays for itself in energy savings alone, when compared to other power quality technologies.

Benefit

Dynamic Sag Correctors protect against short-term voltage sags and interruptions that can impact production. This helps to prevent unscheduled downtime and ensure that the production line will not be affected and able to meet the deadline.

It also protects the sensitive electrical equipment and machineries from damage which can be cause by the poor power quality. This helps to reduce the repairing and maintenance expenses while extend the lifespan of the equipment.

Dynamic Sag Correctors comes with a battery free concept which is more environment-friendly products. With lesser moving part, it has a longer lifespan compared to other product which reduce the repairing cost.
